Although, you may not hear any pinging, your combustion temperature is running higher than normal. Although the exhaust gas is very hot, it actually lowers the temperature inside the combustion chamber. The reason is because there should be little oxygen left in the exhaust after the fuel/air mixture is burned. Higher oxygen content would raise the temperature. Also, your NOx will be higher and I'm not sure if this will contaminate your cat.
