Re: Alex Peppers Automotive Scan tool

[quote=TonyMazz]Has anyone ever seen, used and bought Alex Peppers OBDII Automotive Scan Tool and Virtual Dashboard ?

I'd be interested in opinions.........http://www.obd-2.com/index.html#home

It reads a boat-load of data from the PCM....

List of possible GM Powertrain Specfic Real Time Data
699 items for model years 1995 and beyond.
Updated Nov. 2004 as used in Car Code Vehicle Explorer Scan Tool Browser enhanced data.
Powertrain Control Module address $10 on VPW network. SAE mode $22

I don't the ELM interface but I do use the Multiplex T16-013 with PCMSCAN and EFILive.

PCMSCAN pulls the Generic OBD-2 data (SAE) - usually enough to troubleshoot most PCM codes and Fuel delivery.

The T16 will only work with Version 5 of EFILive, but it pulls all the GM Enhanced PID's everything from Transmission Fluid temp to each gearshift delay errors. It will also pull Pending, current, intermittent and historical codes from all onboard modules. You can also right to the PCM with the pro version if so inclined.

Be fore-warned however that the Supported PID's are Vehicle dependent, of the 400 GM supported ones that I've tried my '98 Blazer supports 136.

Many interfaces are also Manufacturer protocol specific, I think ELM requires a different interface for each protocol whereas some of the other do not...ie the GM scanner will not scan fords etc. The Multiplex interface supports VPW (GM), PWM (Ford) and ISO 9141-2 (Chysler and many imports).

There are also a variety of proprietry interfaces such as Autotap etc... that only work with there own software.

The ELM interface is popular but can be slow when pulling a large numbers of PID's.
