It depends on what model he gets. No stock usdm 240 will keep up with a 6th gen si or newer, but they should trot over a d series which is what he's looking at. My gf had a 240 for a while(minor bumper damage). It didn't feel sportier(I'm quite certian I could have hung right with it in the twisties even with my bald geostars) but it sure as hell was more comefortable. Unfortunately it was no match for a certian Impreza RS, either.
Must suck having a decent 240 and then have to trade her in for a civic.:/
Then again, I'd trade my civic for almost anything with a stick, right now.
