Why does the mechanic think it's the distributor. If i'm not mistaken, that engine will not run unless the PCM sees oil pressure first. So, if your oil pressure sending unit was bad, it wouldn't provide a signal to the computer to turn on the fuel pump. In short, have the oil pressure sensor tested/replaced.
