I know you aren't looking to spend anymore money on this car....but it might be time to search local F-Body sites and LS1tech for a used rear end. If mine was coming out anytime soon I would sell it to you for pretty cheap.
Have they tried putting a new cover/gasket on the rear?? You can get the Moroso cover with gasket for $48. Maybe there is something with the stock rear cover being warped.
