You're better off lifting the front of the car a bit so you can fit under it to do so. I suppose it can be done without lifting, but that's a little like trying to put oil in the engine through the PCV valve.

You WILL have to adjust the toe after replacing the tie-rod ends, there's just no way around it. However, the toe is the one thing that you don't need a fancy machine for to get it "ballparked". You can use a couple of strings and a tape measure to do the deed.
