But, to answer your question, you need a turbo timer to insure proper cooldown of the turbo, you need adequate fuel and also make sure that none of the oil lines are obstructed. The most important thing to turbo longevity is how well you take care in cooling it and not pushing the boost until it is properly warmed up. An intercooler is also a nice asset to a turbo setup, not only does it increase power, it reduces the overall engine temp.
