i had the same thing go wrong with my 95 Town Car, the same code everything. However, my EGR valve was bad (the car has 184,000 miles on it). So i replaced it. Turns out the CHECK ENGINE light came back on, giving me the same fault code. I then replaced the EGR Cellinoid valve (sorry if i spelled that wrong I'm not that good of a speller), which looks like a small cylinder with on wire going into the back of it, and two hoses going into the side of it...one hose should be a red vacuum line hose and the other is a green hose that goes into the EGR valve itself. That could be your problem, that cellinoid (which is usually black in color). However, it wasn't on my Town Car because the light came back on with the same fault code. Then i found out that the DPFE sensor usually goes bad on the EGR systems of the lincoln town cars, ford crown victorias, and mercury grand marquis's. This part is one of the reasons why fords are well known for their CHECK ENGINE lights always coming on, because the computer tells the EGR valve to open and this DPFE sensor doesn't do its job and throws the CHECK ENGINE light. The DPFE sensor looks like a small rectangular domino that is usually silver in color. It isn't too hard to find, but it usually sits to the right of the EGR Cellinoid Valve and behind the throttle body. The DPFE sensor controls the pressure inside of the EGR tube and the valvue itself. So more than likely, that is your problem. It solved the problem with my lincoln and everything works fine, no more CHECK ENGINE light either. However, if you do let the problem go, it won't hurt the engine, but after awhile carbon will build up inside the engine in the exhaust chambers and when you go to get your car inspected, it won't pass emissions because instead of the EGR system recirculating all the gases, the catellitic converter(s) burn up the carbon, causing more exhaust gases that do not have a pleasent smell. And the engine will start to have a small knock. If you want to know the best way to clean carbon out of your exhaust ports in the cylinder chambers without taking the engine apart, let me know. i hope this helps.
