I could be wrong but I don't think the 83 with a carb even has a computer in it. I know my 85 2.8 didn't. I was going to suggest that you disconnect the battery to reset the computer. I would look at the vac hose's and wire connections. Do you have an oil pressure gauge? If so check the sending unit to that and the engine temp sending unit.
