you should change your filter.

if the filter element gets clogged the filter goes into a sort-of bypass mode, rather than a clogged dirty filter preventing the flow of oil it bypasses the filter which means that you are now pumping unfiltered oil through your engine...really bad stuff.

filter wear varies due to driving conditions and filter quality, some can continue working for far longer than 3000 miles, but is it worth it to risk engine damage? i don't think so.

basically new oil and filters are cheap insurance against engine damage and wear.
