mike,
just a guess here, but I'd start at the carb.
did you have any recent backfires? if so, power valve could be blown.
a Holley will still push fuel, but can then sometimes flood itself, then, shift to 'N' and she'll start right back up, while still rolling, and back in gear for awhile, 'til the next stall...
does it stall more often while braking, or making a left turn?
mine did, and it ended up being a power valve.
in colorado, I also found that it would'nt blow the power valve as quickly if I went to a 55, as opposed to the standard 65, but in California, you might start at 65 (or 6.5" of vac) and work up.
