long-term wise the 3.8 will be a better bet since the 3.5L can't be rebuilt. I don't care, I love the 3.5L and the power it makes above 3K rpm. Torquey in the lower RPM's also. Great car for cruising the back roads at 45-50mph around 1500 (or less) rpm.
When I bought new tires the transmission acted real weird like it didn't know what to do. It took a few weeks for the transmission to get the shift points down.
Now it drives awesome and is just under 2000 rpm at 70mph. I can also go 80mph+ (note: this is damn near redline) in second gear.
For me the new tires were a great improvement. The car is also much quieter. BFG Control 65k-80K mile ones (about $90 a piece) Great traction in the wet and snow also.
