I have a confession: I absolutely love VW type 1 and 2´s. I´ve never owned one, but i have built a few, and the other week i rescued a Hasegawa `67 pickup from the LHS shelf. And straight from the box opening my mind was NOT set on a stock vehicle

A few VW magazines was picked up for inspiration and i decided that a "crew cab" would be cool,and since i had a cut-up H´gawa VW bus lingering somehhere, a conversion should be fairly easy. So, one night when the inspiration was on top and the saw close, i went to work:
Measurement showed that the VW factory used the same door ( on the right side) as on the bus,so it looked very promising so far.
Of course the front suspension was lowered " a bit "..
The opening in the roof was filled in with Evergreen styrene and a session with filler/sanding/filler/sanding started..
In the end it looked straight and nice. I also added the raingutters,taped the windowarea to protect it from filler/primer, so the details wouldn´t be lost under it.
I now move on a few days on the timescale; after everything looked quite straigt and nice, a can of Tamiya primer was brought out. I wanted a dark flat gray paintjob, so Tamiya XF63 ( German Grey) was airbrushed over it. I really like the way cars with faded/neglected paintwork look, so the coarser polishingcloths sanded away the Grey to reveal the primer underneath. As it was a pick-up, it probably once belonged to a company, so a decal from Revell´s 50`Austin Gasser was applied. This was also abused by the clothes to resemble a worn look.
Since the picture above was taken, i´ve began to work with rust,using mainly dry pastels and thinned oilpaint to make it look like a real beater.
