When you shift your Blazer into 4X4, the vacuum switch on the transfer case applies vacuum to the servo under the battery tray which pulls the cable that engages the right front axle. The noise that you are hearing is probably the gear at the end of the right front axle trying to engage into the front differential. There is a thrust washer in that area, that if out of place will prevent the engagement. Usually this happens when someone replaces the axle seal and the washer drops out of place. You probably just need that thrust washer.
