Re: 350 vs. smog check
ts all crap. the test is determined by the engine you have, not the body. In other words you AirCare the motor. And what they look for is unburnt fuel!
there's a whole bunch of ways you can cheat on the test.
1 More exhaust leaks
2 Higher octane
3 Leaner engine (on carb its easily done). And on fuel injection cars can be done in many ways.
4 EGR is a must
5 Valve lash
6 A new quality converter for emissions only (or two in-line if to go extreme)
7 Loose weight
8 Performance ignition system that burns all fuel such as MSD
9 And of course good compression.
They test for the engine running rich (and believe me they give you lots of slack and the margin is pretty big for passing)
last time I have done this on my 2.8f I had zero or very close to zero CO reading. (keep in mind it was a high mlg engine too)
Engines that wont pass are either very worn with low compression, or running too rich, or have no catalytic converter.
Also you can find a buddy with the same kinda car and trade the vin numbers for a day!!! or just pay someone.
