WIP: Tamiya hakosuka GT-R - L28 transplant - Updates page 2

***Updates on page 2***

I started with the Tamiya KPGC10 Skyline 2000GT-R kit...And a fujimi nostalgic tuning parts set.

The S20 is gone, as typical practise in Japan when the fragile S20 blew during the 70's/80's was to slot in a heavily modified L-series straight six of some sort, being common, modification parts common due to the zed aftermarket, and able to make staggering amounts of power, 310+hp NA is not uncommon.
I'm using the Fujimi L24 to represent a worked L28-3.1 , with some carbs I robbed from the remains of a Lamborghini kit by ?? that, though probably actually IDAs or IDFs, simulate DCOE webers quite well. They have sakatsu turned alloy 2.5mm bellmouths, and a (real) sheet aluminium heatshield between the top of the headers and the carbs.
As it happens I'm not far into it apart from getting the carbs ready to fit the manifold and slotting in the bellmouths (which my crappy camera won't show) so here's a pic of the short motor sitting loose in the Tamiya engine bay.

To be honest, the tamiya steel rims don't do it for me...
As such, the body is receiving flares front (around 3.5mm deep) and rear (about 5.5mm deep) which I burgled, plundered, purloined from a couple of non scale cartoon style kits (Datsun 720 ute and Hilux ute, copies of mitsuwa kits, made in china and $2.99 AUD...).
The pics show them just glued on, I will mould them on further with putty and "drill" countersink holes for "rivets".
The wheels I have chosen are Fujimi's 345 RS-Watanabe RS-8 kit in anthracite grey - afaik they measure up to about 15x13" on the back and 15x11" fronts, haha. I had some techno TV-R's at the time so I was trying those on.

After all that, the flares don't quite cover the rear tyres - they hang out ~1mm, though I think thats quite acceptable and won't be very noticeable. Plus, nothing a little negative camber won't help, haha...

Anyway, thats a start, hopefully more progress pics in a week or so.
