If you had a burnt valve it would miss a little at idle and you would not hold pressure when tested. Your valve is not burnt.

First buy a Haynes or Chiltons manual.
Your problem is most likely a dirty/sticky Idle Air Control valve or a bad Throttle Position Sensor. The IAC valve can be removed and cleaned, don't forget to clean the inside of the mounting hole. The TPS can be checked following proceedures in a manual. Good Luck.
