The original ones were set up with a vaccum actuator. If you went to full throttle, the engine manifold vaccum went high enough that it opened the hood. ala 70 RR. You could do the same thing but with a vaccum switch. Have one set up to read engine manifold vaccum and as it hits the full throttle mark, it will hit the switch to lift up the scoop. When you let off, it will go down again.
