I would check the door switches. This never happened in my explorer, but my Dodge neon was constantly getting the seatbelt closed in the door, denting the inside of the door so the door switch would not be pressed in. Its also possible one of the door switches could be bad. I used to install alarms/remote starts for a living, and Ive seen that happen quite a bit.
