Enamels take a very long time to dry. For this reason, it will take them a really long time to be as hard as lacquers, and will be longer before you can polish it. The main reason people use lacquers over all other paints is because of how fast and hard they dry. A rule of thumb for clears - yellow on the bottle, yellow in time, clear in the bottle, clear forever. That's hard to tell in a can, but you can't say lacquers won't yellow and enamels won't, because some of each will and some won't.
