the air flow has been changed, so the air/fuel mix going into the combustion chamber is different, probably creating a lean condition.
try unplugging the fuel pump and/or injector relays for about 10-15 minutes; or you could just disconnect the POS(+) battery cable for a couple of minutes (if you do this, ensure you have the radio code (if still factory stereo), otherwise it will LOCk out, preventing operation; if you do not have the radio code, you can leave the ignition key in the ON position (with the vehicle OFF), while disconnecting the battery, and the radio won't lock out) to clear the ECM(computer) and allowing it to re-think and re-program for a different air intake system.
you also might take some air intake cleaner, and spray (sparingly) into the intake horn and clean off the MassAirFlow sensor.
the "weather vane" type filament in the air stream is highly suseptible to humidity, and "non"-air products (like the oil from a K&N filter), and might be just slightly dirty, also causing an engine light, and idle/surging problems.
