what's the mileage? if it's high then most likely that's your problem. most likely it's from the shock of going from a 10w40 to a 5w30. how long have you ran 10w40 in it??( i work at a oil change shop. i deal with this kind of stuff on a daily bases)
also if you're running some big horsepower you'll want to stick with the 5w30. it has less drag for the engine to deal with. if it's high mileage engine(75k+) go with the valvoline Max life full Synthetic. make DAMN SURE it says that(advance once tryed to give me the basic stuff and said it was synthetic). do that untill you can rebuild your motor. the only down side is that it's not as good as Royal Purple or Redline.
but if your have any leaks it'll plug em up. if you go that way run the max. syn. for about 500 miles and the do another oil change with the max. syn. that should plug up damn near any leaks you have.
