I would look at your wiring to alt. and battery first. watch out for green or white residue this needs to be cleaned and check for tightness with conections. get a light lubercant like petroleum jelly for battery connections. check belt make sure the tention pully is operating properly they can freeze up. if all else fails i would look at the alt again. no matter the age.
