First welcome to the forum.
I would start with some plain old preventitive maintenence. First run some fuel injector cleanor thru a couple of tankfulls. I like chevron with techron. If you are close to 100,000 miles change the fuel filter.
Second, change the transmission filter and fluid. Very easy on these cars.
Have you had the ECTS (coolant temperature sensor) changed. When the one on my daughter's 96 SC2 went the engine would race and it semed as if it was stuck in gear. The ECTS were updated from resin tips to brass tips due to consistent failures. A real easy fix under $20.00. Let me know I can get you a link to a great "how to" article.
