yes and no. ive argued this point before.... yes 2000 grit wet/dry will work but... the reason Micro-mesh is so talked about is because the quality is very highly regulated. there manufacturing process is very tightly inspected, its very consistent. the reason is because its used in medical tool finishing. were as say 3M or other manufacturers are not as stringent on "exact" grit. ive used other brands with similar grit ratings but i always get some stray scratch or blem. just my opinion.

But Micro-mesh never leads to any odd factions unless used incorrectly. though i will say this... i only use the 6000 grit Micro-mesh after Tamiya 1500-2000. Followed by various compounds but i used to swear by the stuff.
