The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) on a 4T65E tranny is located on the transaxle extention housing of the passenger side where the drive shaft is located.

When it goes bad a odb-ii DTC error code is supposed to be generated. The PCM computer uses it to establish shift points and it feeds the speedometer.

GM list price for the VSS sensor is approximately $28.00.
