What's the first letter in the VIN?

M is 350 4 bbl dual Exhaust (200 *NET* hp / appx. 260 GROSS hp, for apples-to-apples comparisons to 1971 and older engine specs)
K is 350 4 bbl single exhaust (180 net hp)
H is 350 2 bbl sngle exhaust (160 net hp)
J is 350 2 bbl dual exhaust (175 net hp)

The second letter (M, Z, etc) is the assembly plant code.

82KnightRider - there was one more 455 in '72 besides the 250 (U) and 300 (X) hp versions - the V code 270 hp version, which was only used with the M20 4 speed. Had big valve heads and used the W30 automatic camshaft, so it gave the extra 20 hp.
