You shouldn't have a dip stick, the viscosity of coolant is far to low to get an accurate reading off a dip stick, so normally there is a line on the outside of the reservoir, one for "full cold", and another for "full hot", the reservoir is semi-transparent so you can see were it comes up to on the inside.

When the engine is cool. fill the radiator, and then fill the resevoir to the "full cold" line. Run the engine, and recheck, but note that if the engine/coolant is warm when you recheck, you will need to check it vs. the "full hot" mark.
