It should. Acutally, it should make more becuase its going to have higher compression. It also should make similar torque (which is what 400s have plenty of) since it would have the same stroke.

Of course, you know how engines and performance goes: they don't always do what they should, lol.

As for my ET, when I get it together, I would think it'd atleast run what the 406 did, but to be honest with ya, I think it should go faster. I mean the 406 had flat top pistons with maybe 10:1 compression. When I build the 383, it'll have dome pistons with atleast 13:1 compression. Now they will be slightly smaller (406 and/or 377 has 4.155 inch bore and 355 and/or 383 has 4.030 inch bore).

I dont think it'd be as strong as the 12.5:1 406 that used to be in it (in my uncles car now). It ran a best of 4.26 with that motor (its ran 4.09 twiced in my uncles car--big weight difference between the cars, lol, 2 tenths in 330 ft!?!?, i'd say his is ATLEAST 500 lbs lighter), but typically would run 4.30-4.33 in my car (4.10-4.12 in his car).

So I'd say a 13:1 383 should be able to knock out a 4.30, and average 4.35-4.38 in my car. And then again, who knows, it may barely break into the 4.40s or even 4.50s, and then it may go 4.20s, lol. Its hard to guestimate becuase no two engines will ever be the same, and that flat top 406 of mine did run really strong for what it was.

I just want it to atleast run like it did (best of 4.40 and average 4.43-4.46). I think 4.30 is the perfect speed where I race because thats fast enough to move alot cars around (give the spot) and to run with the really fast cars (4.0hs-down) but still slow enough not to be inconsistant and to not have to worry about stopping it if something goes wrong (there's a creek at the end of the track where I race, lol)
