It may help with the drivability problems but before you change it have the car diagnosed to see where the problem lies. This could be a PCM problem rather than a transmission problem. You may also want to change your O2 sensors since the black smoke indicates a rich condition and the O2 sensors may be the culprit. If the TCC solenoid needs to be replaced I would not try to change it yourself. It is inside the transmission and will cost about $500 to change out. Good Luck!
