Regarding shaved door handles, there is a remote control based / actuator kit sold through Summit Racing or any of the hot rod shops. Summit is on the internet and they are pretty good. Your only looking at about $150.00. It works much like your trunk release. It's also common to hid a switch under the car in case the remote's batteries are dead.
Once this is installed and working properly, see your local body man to remove and fill in the door handles. You can go cheap with bondo or spend a lot more for welding. They will probably want to respray your doors and hopefully they will be able to match the paint.
