Down below the unit the arm connects to, look to the bottom and see if you can find a tab that is in a bracket and pry outward. My car has been doing this for 1 1/2 years. And it doesn't take much force for it to happen. There was no snow, but the wipers were frosted to the glass when mine went. The event was barely noticeable and the wipers did break loose . I always thought it was a short condition -but I am wrong. In a few weeks I'll start digging around the wiper chassis to find this fault. 6 more months and the car is paid off. 2000 Intrigue.
The condition would be called "wipers that won't park".
