Drive by wire means there is no physical connection between the pedel and the throttle body. In other words, no throttle cable or linkage. The vehicles computer receives a variable voltage from the throttle pedel and relays a signal to a stepper motor on the throttle body which opens and closes the throttle. I don't think you need to lube anything, but it is always a good idea to keep things clean.
