I agree with exman98 and siege911 . Dealerships never give you what the car is worth. He could have a mint condition Civic with everything running top shape, and they'd still end up giving him $2K or less for it. I think realistically, they might give him anywhere from $500-750 at most for it. If they want to re-sell the car, they'd have to either sell it at auction or spend the $ to get the car fixed before selling it. But he could definently sell it privately and make a lot more than trading it in. I mean it's a Civic, so a lot of people would buy it just to swap an engine in.
