The part that requires the drain tube is the A/C Evaporator. This is a "radiator" kinda thing that is cooled by the expanding refrigerant. When it cools the air, water condenses on it like the outside of a cold glass of water on a humid day. That water needs to be drained out of the housing, and car...thus the tube. Sometimes those tubes get clogged up even without the aid of a not-so-attentive mechanic. Check to make sure it is clear.
