I was told on an older geo motor to use straight 30 wt.
I have a good motor that does not leak and have been running 10-30 synthetic from WalMart and changing every 8k miles as an experiment.
That car now has 241k mile on it and doesn't burn anything. Seems to be working.
The drip in most cases is from the main shaft seal right behind the timing belt. Not much to worry about except for staining your driveway.
Put in a new seal next time you change your timng belt.
