electrochromic day/night rearview mirror with compass

I have a 2001 Aurora and I was wondering if all the 2001 models are equiped with electrochromic day/night rearview mirror with compass. The manual does not mention if it is an option or not. So I assume they all have this feature?

It says to press the on/off button for 3 seconds to turn it on or off. My mirror has a button with a white dot on the bottom left, a blue onstar button in the center and a red button with a white cross on the right bottom. I'm not sure what button activates the feature. All I know is that when I press the button with the dot, the little red light flashes until I press it again. The only time I see the little red light turn green (this is suppose to mean active) is when I put in or pull out the key and then it turns red again after a few seconds.

I also noticed that at the bottom left of the mirror there is a round door with a slit on the side of it. I tried opening it by hand with no success. What is this for??

Thanks.
