This is a new angle but...............
Back in the years prior to DRL in Canada Canadian tire sold a kit to make a car a DRL type. It was considered safer but not government mandated.
Basically it was a relay that provided power to the headlamp system whenever it was energised. The low voltage of the relay was wrapped around the outside of the high tension wire and using inducatance it energised the relay when the car was running. I don't know how it would work with out a conventional ignition rortr but maybe one of the sparkplug cables would be good enough.
I am sure if you search online you can find one for sale in the US or maybe even in Canada for owners with older vehicles.
