muffler fell off!
today when i was driving home from school in my 91 lumina 3.1, my muffler just fell off! the piece of pipe coming off the front of the muffler that fit into the exhaust pipe just rusted through and fell off. i had been noticing my exhaust getting louder recently and i kinda liked it. it had a snappy type sound and a good low end growl. but when it came off there was like a small boom then it sounded really loud. driving home was slightly embarassing, but amusing. like the whole time i was driving i was just laughing. i had my friends come over and check out the muffler-less lumina and they said it was totally badass and they wished their cars sounded like that (one has a 300zx and the other has a 3-series bmw).
but i had to go to work delivering pizzas in 20 minutes and i figured people wouldnt be too happy if i rolled up with the loudest car ever, so i fixed it using a tin can and 2 hose clamps. i just got rid of both ends and cut the can lengthways and put it around the 2 ends of the pipes and just tightened the hose clamps real hard. after doing that, it sounds quieter than when ive ever had the car (about 6 months). I was pretty amazed that it worked and now i can laugh about ghetto rigging my muffler instead of the sound of the exhaust
