I didn't see your other message, so just guessing you may have the same problem I had in my '95 4.6 litre.

The tranny would start shifting between 2nd & 3rd at random, rapidly, at 25 - 35 mph going uphill, causing a jerky situtation much like the engine missing real bad.

I took it to the Ford dealer and he informed me it needed a software update to the computer. They had a service bulletin covering the problem. Knew exactly how to fix it, and it worked. Part of the routine was to flush and drain and refill the tranny, in case it had been damaged and there was any loose metal in there. Cost me $400. IMO it was a design problem from the factory and shoulda been a recall...!

It woudn't surprise me if a lot of Fords are driving around with this problem, eating up their trannys...!
