New brakes stuck

I just put new drums and shoes on the firebird. The drums were worn and scratched deep enough that they couldnt be rotated, and the shoes were down to bare metal. When i put the new ones three went on without a hitch, and i just had to loosen the brake caliper most of the way down. On the drivers front wheel though the drum would not fit over the show even with the shoes as low as they could go. I got the drum over it, with a mallet. Now the car obviously doesnt want to role. Im going to take it all apart again today, but i was wondering if there are any common solutions to this, or how terrible it would be to drive it until it wears itself (sad because its purposeful wear on new brakes) or to lubricate it. Thanks a lot.

Side post, My brother picked up his 1970 Cadillac Sedan Deville with a 472. We took it down to the school parking lot and it was such a wonderful ride. All that torque on a rear wheel drive got me so excited for the firebird to be complete.
