dude, definitely lower your car if you're gonna get 17's. if you are planning to use 16's with 205/55 tires, you can probably get away with it. fender gap should be about half the side wall of your car to make it look good, imo.
do it the right way the first time. get some TEIN NA's and then get some 17's.
I'm using soft springs with bottom from the lowest height setting ,but damn my car looks good!!!
