That works! The effort to get the part out and fix it will probably take less time than pulling two units (one in your car and one in the junk yard). Also, the "fixed" should last longer. The pulled unit is likely to be near the same state of disrepair which will need to be addressed in the near future. The problem is a poor selection of materials--the grease is dissolving the copper contacts and becoming too conductive.
