Re: So how fast is your car?
1972 Chevrolet Vega
Mods:
Engine/Trans:
406 cubic inch small block Chevy
flat top forged pistons
5.7 inch forged steel rods
400 steel crank
roller cam (probably .600 lift, don't actually know)
Pro 1 cast-iron heads--fully ported, shaved, chambers filled in, 2.08 intake, 1.60 exhaust valves
Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake
Holley Proform 750 (or maybe 730) cfm carb.
etc, etc, etc. Probably atleast a $6000 engine
Powerglide transmission (2-spd. auto for those that don't know)
trans. brake
eletric shift
Chassis/suspension:
tube frame
full roll cage
allum. floor boards
fully tubbed/stripped
4-link rear suspension with coil over shocks
narrowed 12-bolt Chevrolet rear end w/5.13 gear
Other:
full electronics (delay box-trans brake activated, line lock, two-step-3400 rpm off the line, 7000 rpm high-side chip, eletric fans/water pump/fuel pump)
It's a bracket/ET car. As it sets, it'll pull 1.4x 60s at a good track (1.5xs at where I normally race), with new slicks, it'll go probably very low 1.4xs at a good track and high 1.4xs at where I normally race. Will run between 6.60-6.70 in the 1/8th mile, and if it had the gear, probably 10.30 or something in the 1/4.
I race at a 330 ft. drag strip (all they have room for) and it runs 4.4x now (will go 4.3x with new slicks) at around 84-85 mph. While I dont know 0-60 times, it goes 0-about 85 mph in 4.3-4.4 seconds.
My everyday vehicle is a 1992 Chevrolet K1500, 4WD, regular cab, 350 TBI, 4-spd auto (700R-4) with 3.42 gears. I have an Airaid intake, Poweraid throttle body spacer, and Flowmaster exhaust. I have no idea what it will run (never raced it--thats why I have the car), but if I were guessing, i'd say somewhere in the 16 second range, lol.
