Getting a good, shiney finish on a pine car is going to require ALOT of woodworking before hand, and it would be much more difficult than doing it on plastic. pine is just way, WAY too grainy to give a good even shiney painted finish. But, hobby paint will work just fine. And, you don't need primer for adhesion, like you would on plastic. If you want to use something under the hobby paint, forget the primer and use a wood sealent.
