That is early , I had the same problem on 96 at about 4-5 years where the case rusted and became porous and was leaking thru the metal , the metal is so thin on these things now that the salt is eating right thru it and I keep the thing washed even in winter when I can . We live in Rochester ,NY where salt is king . I would go after chrysler for this also specially only being 2000 miles past warranty on the thing .
