I had this same problem and the dealer said that I would have to replace the complete lamp strip - OUCH
Well I let it go and pretty soon the brake lights stopped working so I replace the Brake Light Switch. Guess what? The Brake Lights started working and so did the running lights on the trunk.
But replacing the Brake Light Switch is a knuckle-buster.
