I'd say it's probably the ignition switch. 97s are bad about having faulty ignition switches (not the part you put the key in, the switch is inside the column). Search this forum for "ignition switch" and you will find lots of info. See if you have the same symptoms they describe. Someone here can probably tell you how to test it.
