It's ignorance. You fear what you don't or are unwilling to understand.
There's a different culture, lots of people are afraid of that culture because it's different, and they are close-minded and unwilling or unable to learn about the other people.
People need to relax, live and let live; as Yogs put it, it's intolerance of other people that contributes to the problem.
