A stall converter is a torque converter.

A stall converter is exactly like riding the clutch on a manual transmission vehicle. The car will launch at or around what the stall converter is rated for.

Something to keep in mind! A 2500 stall converter will behave quite differently behind a stock 350 than it will when coupled to a wild 454!
A 2500 stall might begin to pull at around 2500rpms with the 350, but might flash to 3500rpms when mated to the wild 454.
